Housing for herd health
On this webinar join Stuart Fry of The Complete Calf Consultancy, Stuart is based in the southwest of England and has 30 years of experience in calf nutrition and housing and will be discussing the optimum calf rearing environment required to achieve healthy, efficient and profitable calves. Alison Clark from the Progiene Dairy Hygiene Team and County Down farmer Amanda Dunn are also on the call. Amanda Dunn and Kyle Smith run an autumn block calving Holstein herd. They talk about how they spent time reviewing their calf housing, sought advice on how to improve it and made some changes. With 140 calves a year, 40 of those being replacement heifers and the rest Angus cross, the pair have a low mortality rate of around 2%. They put their calves’ good healthy partly down to altering the housing so that they are now in an open-fronted shed in groups of six. Nutritionist Selina Field from Bonanza Calf Nutrition chairs the webinar.
